I’ve suffered from dry, calloused and cracked heels for years. When they cracked, damn it, they hurt. My feet looked and felt old… and I hated for people to see them.
For years I’ve tried every foot cream and lotion I could find. I used a pumice stone. I looked up the problem on websites like Web MD. I didn’t get much relief from anything I tried. Mrs. Boomer complained – loudly! – that my feet were ugly, they snagged the bed sheets, and they hurt her too.
I needed to find a cure for my dry feet and cracked heels!

Are your supplements real? Or are you throwing away money on “snake oil”? Four major national retailers are now accused of selling fake and/or harmful supplements. The New York State attorney general’s office has told the retailers they must remove them from their shelves. An investigation by state authorities found that a number of top-selling store brands of herbal supplements at the four major retailers did not contain any of the herbs listed on their labels. Instead, they contained cheap fillers like powdered vegetables and houseplants.
Some of the findings from the investigation: Walmart’s ginkgo biloba, marketed as a memory booster, contains powdered radish, houseplants and wheat, although it is claimed to be wheat and gluten-free. Walgreen’s store brand of ginseng contains only powdered garlic and rice. Three herbal products at Target — St. John’s wort, ginkgo biloba, and the sleep aid Valerian root – contained only powdered rice, beans, peas and wild carrots. At GNC, pills contained unlisted ingredients such as powdered legumes – including peanuts and soybeans, which can trigger allergic reactions.
Lets get this out there up front: You MUST quit smoking to get younger. PERIOD. If you are a smoker, quitting is the single most important change you can make to slow the aging process.
Aging Effects of Smoking
Smoking makes you look and feel older in a number of ways. Smoking deprives the skin of oxygen. Many of the chemicals in cigarette smoke result in destruction of collagen and elastin, making skin sag. It will even make your breasts sag! Puckering the lips to inhale causes wrinkles around the lips, as well as wrinkles in general. Bags under your eyes, decreased physical endurance. Smoking causes age spots, yellows your teeth and damages your gums. Smoking accelerates thinning of the hair, and contributes to development of cataracts and psoriasis. And smoking is also one of the leading causes of erectile dysfunction in men and decreased libido in women.
Let me preface this post with a disclaimer: I am male, so my opinion doesn’t count! For this post I relied on the opinions of women I know. I read articles in magazines and on the internet. Then I put together a slide show of some obvious and not-so-obvious men. Forgive me if I’ve left out anyone – and I know I have! It’s very different choosing sexy men over 40 than sexy older women. Women have widely differing tastes. What women find sexy in men is different from what men look for in women. Men tend to focus on looks. Women, while still considering looks, don’t focus on it as much. Some women find funny men sexy, others find successful men hot. Older women have different opinions than younger women. For example, check AARP’s list and you’ll find some that aren’t included here! Men also don’t generally go to such extremes as women do to look younger. Men don’t wear makeup (unless they are actors or rock stars!) and rarely dye their gray hair. If their hair starts to out, many men just shave their dome and go bald.
Women spend amazing amounts of time, energy, and money trying to keep themselves looking young and sexy. Many manage to do so simply by keeping active, eating right, and practicing good skin care. Others take a more radical approach with Botox and cosmetic surgeries. We’re not here to disparage those women who take a surgical approach to anti-aging. However, the cost of face-lifts, tummy tucks, and injections is beyond the budget of most women – and men. Diet, exercise, and skin care are far more effective, and cost-effective, ways to keep themselves looking sexy as they age. This is the approach that many of the most beautiful women in the world take to staying sexy over 50. For most of them, cosmetic surgery is viewed as a “last resort”. So who are these women? Recently I came across some videos from Stephen Jepson on YouTube. Intrigued, I visited his website to learn more about his philosophy. Stephen believes that the key to feeling, looking, and thinking young is to never stop playing.
At age 72, Stephen Jepson is living proof of his philosophy of lifetime fitness called Never Leave the Playground. He rides a unicycle, juggles while balancing on a bongo board, throws knives and plays jacks with both hands, walks a tightrope, swam across Iowa’s Spirit Lake at age 66, and has won over 80 gold medals in swimming since age 65. And more. Much more. His secret is to “just keep moving” through constant play, not exercise. He’s developed toys for all ages and degrees of fitness to use throughout our lives so we never have to leave the playground.
Researchers at the University of Alberta claim that medical research didn’t substantiate, and often contradicted, more than half of Dr. Mehmet Oz’s advice. “Recommendations made on medical talk shows often lack adequate information on specific benefits or the magnitude of the effects of these benefits,” the article said. “… The public should be skeptical about recommendations made on medical talk shows.” Continue reading How Often is Dr Oz Wrong?
It has been suggested that walking is the best activity to start an anti-aging exercise regimen. Why is this?
There are many physical activities you can choose from. But did you know that walking has the lowest dropout rate? It’s the simplest positive change you can make to effectively improve your health. Other than a pair of good walking shoes it requires no special equipment.
Why Walking and Hiking Are the Best Beginner Activities
What fruits and vegetables qualify as “super foods”? According to information published by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), your favorite super foods may not be as “Super” as you think. Of 47 foods studied, all but 6 (raspberry, tangerine, cranberry, garlic, onion, and blueberry) satisfied the” powerhouse” food criterion set forth in the study.
Many foods that didn’t make the list, however, are still packed with nutrients and micro-nutrients that were not considered by the study. Only 8 nutrients were scored by the study – fiber, folate, zinc, and vitamins B6, B12, C, D, and E.
