Recently I came across some videos from Stephen Jepson on YouTube. Intrigued, I visited his website to learn more about his philosophy. Stephen believes that the key to feeling, looking, and thinking young is to never stop playing.
At age 72, Stephen Jepson is living proof of his philosophy of lifetime fitness called Never Leave the Playground. He rides a unicycle, juggles while balancing on a bongo board, throws knives and plays jacks with both hands, walks a tightrope, swam across Iowa’s Spirit Lake at age 66, and has won over 80 gold medals in swimming since age 65. And more. Much more. His secret is to “just keep moving” through constant play, not exercise. He’s developed toys for all ages and degrees of fitness to use throughout our lives so we never have to leave the playground.
As seen in the video below, Stephen is very active and creative. While most people his age would be content to sit in a chair and watch TV, doing the exact opposite has resulted in a sharp mind and fit body.
As you can see, Stephen just doesn’t stop moving, thinking and creating. Were it not for his gray hair, you might think he was 20 years younger than his physical of 72. This is the result of his “Never leave the playground” mentality. When we get older, we all tend to stop playing.
What “Never Leave The Playground” Means
One of the most effective ways to get years younger is to, in effect, never grow up. Play like you are a kid again! Daydream, create, and challenge yourself on a regular basis. Play by your self, with your friends, with your children or grandchildren – take them to the park. Don’t just sit and watch, join them on the playground. Skate, ski, jump on a trampoline, ride a unicycle. Juggle. Think of new, fun and creative ways to stay active and mentally engaged.
And never leave the playground!
